Juncus effusus 'Frenzy'

Common Name: Variegated Corkscrew Rush

Juncus effusus ‘Frenzy’ — commonly called corkscrew rush — is an ornamental grass-like perennial grown for its twisting, spiraled green stems that create striking texture from spring through winter. Unlike upright rushes, its tightly curled stems form a lively, architectural clump that adds movement and contrast in containers, water gardens, and moist borders. Small brown flower clusters may appear near stem tips in summer but are secondary to the unusual foliage effect. Type: Perennial Mature Size: Width: 12–18 in. Height: 12–18 in. USDA Zones: 5a–9b Form: Upright, twisting clump Light: Full sun to partial shade Soil: Moist to wet soil; tolerates boggy conditions and shallow standing water Water: High; prefers consistently wet soil Wildlife: Provides cover for small wetland insects and amphibians Features & Landscape Uses: Excellent for containers, pond margins, rain gardens, bog gardens, and mixed moisture-loving plantings. Its spiraled stems provide year-round texture and strong contrast with broad-leaved plants. Care: Keep soil consistently moist or wet for best performance. Cut back old stems in early spring before new growth begins. Divide clumps every few years if needed to refresh vigor.
